Lord Stevens Review

As I’m sure you will be aware, the Labour Party (UK) have commissioned Lord Stevens to conduct an independent review of the role of modern policing. Professor Jennifer Brown from the London School of Economics is part of that review. Knowing of Policing Matters, she has approached me, as the Commission is very keen to hear the views of police officers and those associated with policing.

The aim is to address a number of questions in the following areas:

What is the role of Police?
What are the public’s expectations of policing?
How can the police service strike the right balance between local and national priorities?
What do you think are the most critical issues that the Commission should address?
If you were designing a modern police force for England and Wales, what would it look like?
What are your views about the training and education for police officers?
What are the limits to privatisation and civilianisation?
Views are welcome from all, but it would be very useful if you could identify your professional involvement with policing at the start of the discussion. Please be assured that, unless otherwise stated, the responses generated by the discussion will be analysed thematically, nobody will be identified by name, and used as part of the consultation being undertaken.

Please be clear which question(s) you are addressing.

We look forward to your contributions.
